Gingerbread Dog Biscuits

german shepherd dog look at gingerbread dog biscuit

Today, on Day One of the 12 Days of Christmas Dog Treat Recipes, I'm baking an aromatic batch of gluten-free mini gingerbread cookies for dogs.

Creating tasty, healthy homemade treats with a festive twist is my way of giving love to Rambo. And to be honest, making treats for him is very therapeutic for me. It helps me de-stress, so this is a win-win scenario.

These dog friendly gingerbread dog biscuits smell amazing, thanks to a dash of molasses and all the spices. Your kitchen will be filled with this delightful aroma as they bake. This is a gluten-free recipe, so it's perfect for health-conscious dog parents. It's super easy to make. Feel free to get creative with cookie cutters or use vegetable cutters!

The "cookie" cutter I use here is a mini vegetable cutter. The set comes with 18 mini-sized cutters. Gingerbread Man is one of the shapes. Personally, I prefer to make mini-sized dog treats so Rambo can have a few more and won't gain extra weight.

Gingerbread Cookies for Dogs Recipe

Ingredients for Gluten-Free Mimi Gingerbread Cookies for Dogs

  • 1 cup oat flour (I use Arrowhead Mills Organic Oat Four. Oat flour is gluten-free. You can use any flour, such as wheat flour or coconut flour)

  • 1/4 cup 100% pure pumpkin puree OR 2 tablespoons Native Pet Organic Pumpkin Powder + 1.5 tablespoon water

  • 1 egg

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 3/4 tablespoon molasses* (optional. You can skip this if you don't have molasses or prefer not to use any sweetener )

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F

  2. In a bowl, combine all the dry ingredients: oat flour, cinnamon, ginger, and pumpkin powder. Blend well with a fork or whisk.

  3. In a separate bowl, mix all the wet ingredients: egg, pumpkin puree, and molasses, and add the mixture to the dry ingredients. Blend until a dough ball forms,

  4. Cover the dough with parchment paper or a non-stick mat. Use a rolling pin to flatten it to about 4mm (0.15 inch) thickness.

  5. Use a mini cookie cutter to cut shapes and place them on baking sheets. The biscuits in this recipe don't spread. You don't need to space them out.

  6. Decorate with a toothpick (optional). I use a toothpick to add eyes, smiles, and buttons for the gingerbread men.

  7. Bake for 7 minutes, flip each biscuit, and bake for an additional 7 minutes. (You have to adjust the cooking time if you make a regular-size cookie instead of a size)

Rambo LOVES these gingerbread treats. He actually stole some cookie dough when I went to the bathroom, lol

Remember to share this recipe with your friends so they can enjoy making it for their dogs, too! Feel free to drop your suggestions or ask any questions in the comments!
