Homemade Doggie Birthday Cake

doggy birthday cake

Last week, we celebrated Rambo's 8th birthday. As part of our annual tradition, I created a meat cake for this special occasion. Turning 8 years old felt like a significant milestone in his journey, as he's now officially a senior doggie citizen. In this blog post, I'm going to share the details of how I crafted a bougie doggy cake that's healthy for him.

I know there are plenty of doggie cakes you can buy on the market, but I prefer to make my own using raw meat. I'm all about avoiding sugar and other artificial ingredients, as they can increase inflammation levels. So, I wanted to ensure that Rambo's birthday “cake” would be both delicious and nourishing.

The Ingredients

For this year's special meat cake, I took a trip to Whole Foods Market and bought the following ingredients. Just a quick side note: Rambo is raw fed, but his everyday meals are never this extravagant. Usually, I bought meat from my local Winco or Costco for his regular days. The only time I can go all out with his meat is on special occasions.

The Culinary Process

Creating Rambo's bougie meat cake was a breeze – no cooking or baking required. Here's how I did it, step by step:

  1. Shaping and Assembling: To start, I shaped each type of meat into layers, much like a traditional cake. It's a good idea to pop the ground meat in the freezer for about 30 minutes before shaping. This helps the cake hold its form and avoids a bloody messy appearance.

  1. Layer Variety: Rambo's birthday cake features three layers: Bison, Lamb, and Venison

  2. Yogurt "Frosting": For a creamy twist, I topped the "cake" with sheep milk yogurt. Just like the frosting on a human cake, minus the sugar but loaded with tons of probiotics.

  3. Berry-Topped Perfection: To make the cake pop with color to make it Instagram photo worthy, I decorated it with fresh organic blueberries.

  4. Diced Top Loin and Broccoli: Just to be extra, I surrounded it with diced top loin and broccoli.

So there you have it, a cake fit for our four-legged friends – no oven mitts required!
